Educational Programs for Youth

CEF partners with the Chester Upland School District to provide after-school programming for over 500 elementary through high school students each year. About 100 high school students voluntarily attend the after-school program each day at Chester High School. We recruit teachers and college and business volunteers to provide tutoring and homework assistance along with enrichment activities including clubs, trips and fun activities. The goals of the program are to:

  • Increase student achivement in reading, writing and mathematics
  • Improve school-related attitudes, behaviors and skills
  • Increase parental involvement
  • Increase graduation rate of participants in program

According to a series of independant evalutation by Widener University's Professor of Social Work, Stephen Kauffman, PhD, CUSD students involved in CEF programs have better grades, attendance and graduation rates than their peers.
