Color Theory
Color theory
In its simplest terms color theory refers to the selection of colors in visual arts, product design, store design, and many other mediums where the selected color will provoke emotions. Many of these meanings are universal because they have an effect on the brain but some are only cultural. Whether you like a color frequently depends on childhood memories and your association between colors and feelings. If your mother made you wear yellow one day and your classmates made fun of you, yellow is not likely to be your favorite color as an adult.
Students selected colors from a variety of paint samples that evoked JOY. During our sessions with the CCA students, music was a universal source of joy. We decided to use the selected colors and paint records to symbolize the joy music brings us. You can find the painted “sculptures” floating in the left corner of the space. Please enjoy the video on Color Theory we shared with students below for more context.
